and welcome to Weekend Walkers guide to the South Pennines.
The
South Pennines have a definite character all of theirown that beg
to be explored as a whole. Accordingly, Weekend Walker is brimming
with ideas to help you do just that.
The South Pennines
are far-reaching and stretch over two counties, including parts
of the districts of Bradford, Kirklees, Calderdale and Craven in
Yorkshire and Burnley, Oldham, Pendle, Rochdale and Rossendale in
Lancashire.
The uncompromising
magnificence of the South Pennines makes it great for year round
walking, with official footpaths, village trails and guided walks,
all designed for your enjoyment in exploring the area’s individual
blend of heritage and countryside.
These include:
middle distance footpaths mapped out in easy sections by the local
authorities: the Bronte Way, Burnley Way, Kirklees Way, Pendle Way,
Calderdale Way, Oldham Way, Worth Way, Rochdale Way, Rossendale
Way, and Bradford’s new Millennium Way.
As you will
appreciate, this involves hundreds of miles of footpaths, and will
take some time in completely cataloguing within this site. If what
you are seeking isn’t yet listed, you can make enquiries at the
appropriate Tourist Information Centres whose details you will find
in our links section.
Don’t forget
to bookmark us, this site is updated on a daily basis, so even if
what you are looking for at the moment isn’t here, there may be
something of interest at a later date.
